Class Title: Classic Betty

Area of Study: Construction
Class Hours: 12
Class Type: Project
Skill Level: Intermediate or advanced

This project was inspired by a beautiful dress that caught my eye while shopping in one of my favorite antique shops.  The dress was simple but oh so sweet.  Its Madeira embroidery was so inspiring I created a similar look for my grandmother’s closet.

This delicate little confection has classic style lines and stunning embroidery.  The dress buttons down the back, contains short straight sleeves and fancy scalloped edge finishes.   To keep costs at a minimum a separate slip kit is available as an add-on to complete the ensemble if you so desire.

I created three embroidery designs for this project based on different skill and comfort levels.  Beginner, intermediate and advanced design options are all included in your pattern.  You choose the design you wish to tackle.

The stitches and techniques mastered during this project are backstitch; eyelets; granitos; hand buttonholes; padded satin stitch; running stitch; scalloped eyelet edge treatment; shadow work and stem/outline.

This is a hand embroidery class.  You will have the option to practice your stitches on a fabric sample or start in on your dress fabric.  Anyone who chooses to start on their dress must pick up their kit before class to preshrink fabric.  The project has minimal construction all of which will be completed at home.

Practice produces perfection!  By the time your dress is complete you will be able to master any of the stitches you chose for this special project!
